App Privacy Policy

AI or Not for iOS

This Privacy Policy describes how the AI or Not iOS app (the "App"), published by AIorNot, Inc. ("AI or Not," "we," "us"), handles your information. The short version: the App is designed so that your data never leaves your device, and we collect nothing.

1. What We Don't Collect

The App's AI detection runs entirely on your device using a model embedded in the App. Because of this design:

  • We never receive the text you check. It is processed on your device and is not transmitted to us or anyone else. There is no server-side copy — not for free users, not for Pro.
  • We never receive your results or check history. They are stored only in the App's local storage on your device.
  • No account is required or offered. We do not collect your name, email address, or contact information through the App.
  • No tracking. The App contains no advertising, no analytics SDKs, no third-party trackers, and no cookies, and it does not fingerprint your device.
  • The App makes no network calls to our servers.

We therefore have no personal data about you to sell, share, or lose. We do not "sell" or "share" personal information as those terms are defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act.

2. Information Processed on Your Device

The following data exists only on your device, under your control:

  • Text you paste for analysis, while it is being analyzed.
  • Check history (the analyzed text, scores, and dates), stored locally so you can revisit past checks. You can delete history in the App at any time, and deleting the App removes all of its local data. Your device backups (iCloud or local) may include this data under Apple's backup settings, which you control.
  • Usage limits for the free tier (a local counter of checks used today), stored on the device only.

3. Purchases

The Pro unlock is a one-time in-app purchase processed by Apple through your Apple Account. We never see your payment card details. Entitlement status ("this Apple Account owns the Pro unlock") is verified on-device through Apple's StoreKit; Apple provides us no personally identifying purchase records. Apple's handling of your purchase data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy at https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/.

4. Apple Service Interactions

Two limited interactions with Apple's servers (not ours) exist:

  • Purchases and purchase restoration go through Apple, as described in Section 3.
  • One-time model activation. The detection model inside the App is encrypted. The first time the App loads it, iOS retrieves the decryption key from Apple's servers, which requires an internet connection once. This is an interaction between your device and Apple; the text you check is never involved, and we receive no personal data from it. After activation, detection works fully offline.

If you have enabled "Share With App Developers" in iOS Settings, Apple may also provide us aggregated or device-level crash reports through App Store Connect. These are controlled by your iOS settings, come to us via Apple, and never include the text you analyze. Apple additionally provides us aggregate, anonymized App Store metrics (downloads, sales) that are not tied to you.

5. Children's Privacy

The App does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, including children under 13. Because no data leaves the device, no child's personal data is transmitted to us through the App.

6. Security

Your text and history are protected by iOS's built-in protections on your device (device passcode and encryption at rest as provided by iOS). No method of storage is perfectly secure, but because your data never leaves your device, its security does not depend on our servers.

7. Your Rights

Privacy laws such as the GDPR and CCPA give you rights over personal data a company holds about you (access, deletion, portability, opt-out of sale). Because we hold no personal data about App users, there is typically nothing for us to produce, correct, or delete — your data is on your device, and you can view or erase it directly in the App. If you believe we hold personal data about you (for example, because you also use our website or emailed our support), contact support@aiornot.com and we will honor applicable rights. Website and API use is governed by the aiornot.com Privacy Policy, not this one.

8. Changes to This Policy

If we change the App in a way that alters how data is handled (for example, adding an optional online feature), we will update this policy, change the App's App Store privacy label to match, and give notice in the App before the change takes effect. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
